About Us
The St Johns Classical Guitar Ensemble was formed in July 2024. We are a group of musicians who enjoy rehearsing and performing together. Our goal is to create beautiful music and share with the St Johns County area and it neighbors the beauty of the classical guitar in a large ensemble setting. In addition, our players also work on duets and trios that are performed on our concerts. It is our hope that we will grow in numbers and musicianship as an ensemble. This will be accomplished through proactive recruiting and input from expert performers and teachers. Most recently the group performed for the well-known guitarist William Kanengiser of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. In addition, the ensemble attended a master class given by guitarist Sharon Isbin.
The ensemble is directed by classical guitarist and composer Chuck Rogers of St Augustine. The ensemble is open to guitarist of all levels. Players will need to be able to read music on the guitar to be able to learn and perform the music we perform. Guitarists who are limited in their reading skills can still perform music parts that are simpler and still enjoyable. In addition, we encourage all players to focus on developing their playing and music reading skills to be able to enjoy playing more difficult parts within the music performed. We are fortunate to have several experienced and proficient guitarists in our group. It is interesting that in our ensemble we have several music teachers that work or have worked for the St Johns County School District. Their participation has dramatically impacted the quality of sound that the ensemble is able to produce. We hope that you will consider joining the St Johns Classical Guitar Ensemble. It is a wonderful group of people that truly enjoy playing together and sharing beautiful music with our community.
